Company Name: What to consider when choosing a company name in the US?
To ensure a smooth company registration process and avoid potential delays or rejections from the Secretary of State like Delaware, it’s crucial to choose the right name. With numerous registered company names in the states where we operate, consider the following tips to increase the likelihood of approval:
1. Unique Names:
- Avoid overly common words like “cars” to distinguish your company.
- Opt for multi-word combinations whenever possible to enhance uniqueness.
- Be aware that even if a name initially appears approved, it may later be rejected due to similarities with existing names, necessitating additional options and causing delays.
2. Foreign Words:
- Choose English words for your business name to expedite the registration process. If using a foreign word, provide its English translation promptly to our Customer Support Team to prevent delays.
- Avoid accent marks in the company name, as they don’t exist in English (e.g., é, ë, ç).
3. Suffixes for LLCs:
- Use appropriate suffixes for LLCs on the application form (e.g., LLC, L.L.C., Limited Liability Company).
- Note that Secretary of State offices do not accept Corporation suffixes in LLCs, and vice versa.
4. Suffixes for Corporations:
- Choose from acceptable suffixes for Corporations on the application form (e.g., Corporation, Co., Corp., Ltd., Incorporated, Limited).
- Ensure compatibility between the chosen suffix and your company’s structure.
5. Avoid Ineligible Characters or Words:
- Exclude corporate or LLC endings (e.g., Inc, Foundation, Corp, LLC).
- Omit noise words like “The,” “A,” or “An.”
- Refrain from using symbols such as “&” in the company name.
Please notice that the Secretary of State office does not accept Corporation suffixes in LLCs companies and vice versa!
