What is the Form 7004?
In the United States, businesses often elect to extend their filing deadline by filing Form 7004, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File. This form must be filed by the original due date of the return.
When filing for an extension, companies are required to provide an estimate of the taxes owed and remit that amount to the IRS by the original due date. It’s important to note that the extension applies to the filing of the return, not the payment itself.
