Can I use the SSN of a friend, family member, or employee to get an EIN?
The IRS does not permit the use of nominees for obtaining EINs. All applications must reveal the true principal officer, general partner, grantor, owner, or trustor. This “responsible party” must have control over the entity and its funds and assets.
Thus, we strongly advise against using another person’s SSN, as this violates IRS regulations. Only use an SSN if the person is genuinely a member of the company.
For more information, visit the IRS’s Responsible Parties and Nominees page.
